Marlborough Achieves OHSAS 18001 Certification

Marlborough's Business Management System has been certificated to OHSAS 18001:1999, the demanding International Standard for Occupational Health & Safety.

The family of business standards that we identified early on as being key tools for success were ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) and OHSAS 18001 (Health & Safety). These standards are not only internationally recognised but are also particularly prevalent within the construction industry and a core pre-requisite of our clients for preferred subcontractors.

Having been accredited to ISO 9001 for six years we know that business standards such as the ISO & OHSAS standards work - we've seen the evidence in increased profitability, improved efficiency, enhanced performance...the list goes on.

In 2006 we began integrating our existing quality management system with our health & safety management system to create one over-riding common sensical Business Management System which covers all of the company's operations - from how we deal with the post at Head Office to how we test & inspect works on site.

Our integrated Business Management System has been audited by a UKAS assessment body & has been certificated to OHSAS 18001 as well as maintaining ongoing accreditation to ISO 9001. OHSAS 18001 specifies that an organisation must have a system that:

• Allows the company to consistently identify & control its health & safety risks
• Reduces the potential for accidents
• Aids legislative compliance
• Improves overall performance

It doesn't end with a tick in the box & a nice certificate though..... to continue to hold our accreditations we undergo bi-annual surveillance audits by our UKAS Assessor and this, along with our own processes for monitoring, audit & review, ensure we continually improve, and, as testament to that, we are now beginning to integrate more processes into our Business Management System that will cover Environmental Management & meet the requirements of ISO 14001...at Marlborough we never stand still!
